Letters

In class today we had an amazing opportunity to read some letters straight from the interment camps. our group read the earlier letters as they were moving around and settling in. The living situations they were in were horrible. These letters were from the summer where it was very hot and so were the barracks. It related a lot to what was read about these times yet Amy seemed very tough and did not complain a lot. As Doug stated this may be because most of her letters were to an American friend.
I found it very interesting how her father was sent in for questioning and in-prisoned, in the letters that we read they were trying to find someone to vouch for him not being a sabotager. Just like in the readings these letters matched up very similar. I also noticed how many were getting sick but they said it was cause the water. Everyone would have been getting sick if it was the water but it was probably from what we learned today of many of them being lactose intolerant.
It was also very amazing how they managed to start up Sunday schools through all of the hardship and in a lot of the letters she was getting supplies from friends and more than grateful.
